Dr. Mary Boyce has dedicated her life to learning.

Throughout her 30+ year career as a faculty, administrator and academic leader in higher education, Dr. Boyce has championed inclusive learning environments with professional development, executive-skill building, and best practices around opening and sustaining dialogue between individuals and across organizations.

 Dr. Boyce calls on this passion, experience and storytelling in her coaching and consulting practice, collaborating with leaders at all levels in higher education and non-profit organizations. With a focus on developing rich interpersonal relationships and encouraging communication, Dr. Boyce brings an extraordinary empathy and refreshing optimism to her coaching and consulting practice. 

By listening carefully, asking questions, and honoring each clients’ vision, wisdom, and experiences, Dr. Boyce helps leaders identify their true goals as well as the obstacles that get in the way of achieving them. Through honest conversation and fearless exploration, she encourages her clients to engage with and work through the challenges they face. Clients gain self-knowledge, clarity, and actionable plans to realize transformation in their professional lives and organizations.

Education & EXPERIENCE

Dr. Boyce holds a PhD in Human and Organizational Systems from the Fielding Graduate Institute in Santa Barbara, CA; an MA in Social Science from Azusa Pacific University in Azusa, CA; and a BA in Human Services from University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN. Passionate about storytelling in organizations, she has led seminars and workshops on wide-ranging topics, including storytelling and organizational culture, organizational change and learning, capacity building, inclusion, equity and diversity, and personal transformation.

Over the course of her career in higher education, Dr. Boyce has fostered inclusive learning environments. Most recently, as the Assistant Vice Provost for Equity and Inclusion in Academic Affairs at University of Michigan’s flagship campus in Ann Arbor, Dr. Boyce worked with DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) leads on diversity-related strategic planning in the schools and colleges and provided leadership development. Serving as the Interim Provost at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science, she also directed the planning for enrollment growth and prepared the institution for successful regional accreditation.

During her tenure as the Associate Vice President for Academic Planning & Institutional Effectiveness at California State University Monterey Bay, Dr. Boyce played a key role in developing the university’s academic and strategic plans. Additionally, she led the university’s preparation for regional accreditation. As the Provost and Academic Vice President at Mount St. Mary’s College in Los Angeles, Dr. Boyce facilitated academic planning, expansion of the school’s Nursing program, and supported the launch of new academic programs. At University of Redlands in California, she served as the Dean of Whitehead College and oversaw the creation of two new professional schools.

Along with her academic leadership roles, Dr. Boyce has also reached students as an assistant and then, associate professor and visiting scholar at institutions including the University of Redlands and Claremont Graduate University.

Leveraging her experience as an academic leader and administrator, Dr. Boyce provided consulting services to a number of universities and organizations including California State University San Bernardino; Career Development Dynamics in Ventura CA; Getty Information Institute in Santa Monica; Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, WA; Pacific Oaks College in Pasadena; University of California Irvine; University of California Riverside; and University of Southern California.

Mary received her Executive Coaching certification from the Hudson Institute of Coaching, and is now an ACC-certified coach with the International Coaching Federation.

When not helping leaders share their stories, become effective managers, and transform their organizations as well as personal lives, Dr. Boyce enjoys spending time with her partner of 25 years, Dr. Sue Borrego, and their family including two adult children, nine grandchildren, and two rambunctious dogs. Dr. Boyce lives in California and is an enthusiastic beginning kayaker.
